A WHOLE FRIGGING LAKE disappears. (via Lucianne)

What baffles me as much as an entire lake disappearing is this quote from one of the villagers:

"I am thinking, well, America has finally got to us," said one old woman, as she sat on the ground outside her house.

I'm not at all certain of what she means. Is she thinking we've found a way to steal lakes? That we've dug all the way through the Earth and finally hit Russia? Which one does she mean?
