I have a pretty strong connection to Alaskan Eskimo villages (not these specific villages), and these aren't just any ol' Eskimo villages. Mapqest them and you'll see where they are situated. Yeah, waaaaay out there.

This is what you call sacrafice. More than rationing during WWII? Could be, since this would be free to the villages.

I don't have the blog power that some of you biggies have, but it might be a good time to set-up a fund for these villages to show them we appreciate their loyalty and pricpled stand against tyranny & cheap parlor tricks.

Five years ago I had been back in the country for a few months after a stint in Australia. I'd been working at a new job (with my current employer) for exactly 2-months and met the girl that would become my wife, though we wouldn't start dating for another 6-months. I'll admit I was living with my parents at the time (just for another week) when this all went down.

It was just after drying off from my morning shower I could hear my mother call from her room, "(Editor), you've got to come see this. They say a small plane has hit the World Trade Center." It was the urgency in her voice that persuaded me to come take a look, because in my head a small plane would not be a big deal. I expected to walk into her room and see on CNN maybe the tail of a Cessna sticking out or the spot where the "small plane" hit the building and then shots of it on the ground below where it would have landed, but that of course is not what I saw.

I looked at my mother and said, "There's no way that was a small plane." I didn't know what it was for sure, but a "small plane" it was not. Was it an accident? Maybe, but I doubt it.

Almost immediately after making that declaration United's Flight 175 767 smashed into the South tower. This was no accident. It was clear and deliberate.

About 30 minutes passed while I finished prepping myself for work and eating breakfast. I had no time to stick around and watch it on television. It was time to get started on my morning commute into the city. I don't care what was going on, it wasn't going to change my routine. I'd turn the radio on in the car and listen for any updates. Of course, it wasn't just updates - it dominated the morning news stations, even here on the West Coast.

Just minutes after setting out on the commute I recieved a call on the mobile spanning the Pacific Ocean from my ex-girlfriend in Melbourne, Australia. In her thick Aussie accent, panicke she asked, "Are you watching this?" I was a little annoyed at the time because I'd been trying to listen to the radio for all the latest info, but since she could watch it live I kept her on the line. We speculated on what was going on, then, while I was waiting in line to get on the interstate, she gasped.

"What?" I asked.
"There's a big fire at the Pentagon."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, they're showing it right now. It was an explosion of some sort."
"We're at war."

I wanted to get off the phone. I didn't think she would understand how I felt. In fact, I'm certain of it. She certainly did not want to come to grips with the "We're at war" comment, but she could not deny it, either. I was right and she knew it. Just like the right-left relationship of today.

Not long after news of the Pentagon "explosion" I had the worst exchanges I've ever had with a person. There were no hostilities - it was the shear helplessness of it all.

"Oh my god!" She screamed.
"What? What?!"

There was silence for a few seconds.

"What?" I demanded.
"One of the buildings just collapsed."
"What do you mean 'collapsed'? A few floors came down on each other?"
"No. The building collapsed."
"The whole building?"
"Yes."
"The whole thing just came down, all the way?"
"Yes. It crumbled. There's just a huge cloud of dust forming, now."
"The whole thing?"
"Yes."
"Both or just one?"
"Just one, I think. I can't tell."
"Did it fall over? What? Did it fall into other buildings?"
"I don't know - it just came straight down."
"That couldn't have happened. Something must have collapsed and just hidden the rest of building in dust or smoke."
"No. The building is completely gone."

There's no way to explain what I was feeling. Here I am in the car on the interstate getting live updates from someone in Australia on the attrocities in New York & Washington. All I wanted to do was get to a television, but that wasn't going to be possible for another 30-minutes or so, if even then.

It didn't seem very long between that South tower's collapse and the North's. Everything was so surreal getting the information over the mobile. All I wanted to do was fight & kill - exterminate the petulance.

At the office, I spent the rest of the day watching Fox News via the web. They were live streaming at the time and I don't know how I would have got through the day without it. In fact, I don't know how I would have got through those first few months without their live stream - not just Fox, but everyone.

So, that's where I was when it happened.

Here is where I am, today: "I will not surrender/I will not submit."

People like that are the special ones - the incredible types. Steve Irwin was one of those very few.

The Artist of the Week here at EiP this week is Marc Broussard.

Marc Broussard hails form Carnecro, Louisiana , which is consequently the name of his latest album. I'd say it's fairly appropriate to feature an artist from Louisiana this week.

There's really nothing much to say about Marc, except, "Go listen and enjoy." This guy has soul and a voice to keep up with it. His song writing is heart felt and of the most sincerest compassion.

As a wonderful surprise to my wife and I, while taking a look at Marc's website for this post, we noticed he is coming to town soon. Tickets to this show was an easy decision.

This week, we'll also feature an "Honorable Mention". This artist just probably would never get a weekly feature on EiP because it could cramp our style, but she deserves a nod. Carrie Underwood has certainly surpassed my expectations. I'm not a country music fan, but she convinced me to import four of her songs to the Nano. Good on her. I just wish they'd release her version of Heart's "Alone". She belted that sucker out.

Well, things are coming down fast, and there is no doubt those hell bent on re-educating your children for the social better will do everything they possibly can to complete that re-education. It's here, too, but too many people are in denial because, well, it's a whole lot easier to drop your kids off at school (for whatever reason):

There is no way, no how any kids my wife and I have will be put through the public school system of this country - full stop. Not this country. Not any. There are few things I consider more evil in this world than the attempt by the devil to convince people to rebel against the very natural differences God has created between man and woman. (I like my woman to look like a woman - not little boys.)

Show me a gender-confused boy in San Francisco and I'll show you a parent who won't let him play with plastic guns. I've seen this first hand with liberal parents I know at work. The mother won't let her 8 year old play with a plastic ray gun but will let him watch sex scenes in R movies because one is natural and one is not.

One of the best lines I've ever heard from Michael Medved was from a story he told regarding his wife's attempt to halt their son's aggression towards his sisters: (paraphrased) "My wife thought she was going to stop our son from pointing his toy guns at his sister by taking them away from him. He showed her by taking one of his sister's Barbie dolls and making a gun out of it."

It's been a long, long time since I've felt invincible. Fellas, you know what I'm talking about - like you can take on the world with one hand tied behind your back and come out of it with nothing more than minor skin abrasions. Basically, Superman. It's something ingrained in most anyone with a set of testicles. It's what makes the world go 'round.

Of course, some of us come in contact with kryptonite. The worst sort of encounter with it comes when you don't even know what your kryptonite is. You lose your strength, your energy, your stamina, your witts and ability to control your temper. Almost like Jackie Mackie Paisley Passy has somehow got a hold of your baby maker. It can get ugly and there's nothing you can do about it. No one knows what's causing it or how to combat it. Your symptoms are diagnosed as the condition rather than symptoms.

10 years! 10 friggin' years I've felt like this. Some times it was more severe than others, but always there. That was until 6-weeks ago when we finally discovered what my kryptonite was.

My kryptonite is... gluten. It's called Celiac disease - an autoimmune disorder - and it's not a widely tested for condition. Yet, there are some who think that possibly 1 in every 133 Americans may be afflicted with it - many being "diagnosed" with other disorders. In fact, after I became aware of it my nephew was tested for it, only after my sister insisted. The pediatrician had never heard of it and had to research via the web. She's now going to screen most of her patients who have nutritional issues.

Yeah - it's not easy to catch everything with gluten (I'm dealing with a reaction to something inadvertently eaten yesterday), but when you know your poison it sure makes life a lot more pleasant.

So, here I am, now 30-years-old and feeling better than I ever have in my adult life - I'm invincible, again. It's too bad 10 years went by before figuring it out, but at least it's better than the 11-years it takes the average celiac to be diagnosed. Check it out for yourself. If a pediatrician had never come across it maybe there's a chance your doctor hasn't. Maybe.

Back in the day I would post my notes taken during the sermons at church on Sundays as a way to catalog and make them available for those who might stumble across this desolate place. I grew out of that habit fairly quickly for a very simple reason: The sermons became available as downloads and Podcasts, so now I just import them to my iPod. I still take notes during the sermons, but it's sure a whole lot easier and more informative to re-listen to them than type them out for a blog post.

'Hawks win!

Yeah, it's preseason and I've been doing this Seahawks fan thing for nearly 24-years, so I'm used to it. Nothing new here. Yet, 'tis the season for proselystizing and making new fans. What better time to do it than during the preseason just months after the 'Hawks made it to the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history? My wife is not quite there yet. She still thinks there are two seasons: Football Season and Her Season.

One person I've successfully converted to the Rebel Alliance is my 4-year-old nephew. That was no small feat. The odds were stacked against it: His father is a Steelers fan and they live in Denver. Somehow (divine intervention can be the only answer), my influence was able to take root in his heart and a lifelong devotion to the Seahawks is almost complete.

He now stops me in midsentence while speaking on the phone and asks, "Wait. Are you for the Seahawks or the Steelers?" When assured of my commitment to the 'Hawks he answers with an approving, "Good." But that's not it.

I was recently told he stood up in a restaurant in Denver and, with all his might, yelled, "Yaaaaay Seahawks! Boooo Broncos!" Not only is he fan, he's a fan with brass cojones - at 4, nonetheless. (sniff, sniif) It's enough to make one the proudest uncle in the world.

Yeah, so Snakes On A Plane. Well, I was right - she wasn't so happy about the Friday night date I had planned. It took 5 minutes just to convince her I actually bought tickets. 5 minutes of: "No." "Yes." "No." "Yes." The only thing that ended it was showing her the Fandango confirmation email. She was resigned to it.

Fellas, let me give you a little advice - if you plan on taking your wife to see Snakes On A Plan make sure to budget for another $13 for a DVD copy of The Notebook and busting out Little Women, followed up with a weeks worth of Anne of Green Gables, 'cause you're gonna have some forced making up to do. Oh, and never forget the "sorry" word. Never leave "sorry" behind. You might even want to chase it with flowers.

Best line? "Great. Snakes on crack."

On a side note, sitting in front of us in the theater thoroughly enjoying himself was the always active Tim Eyman. Clearly, this is a man who has been married longer than I have - he was by himself.

She may be the most unpretentious musice artist to have "made it big" for quite some time. She knows what she does well and sticks to it. Must be those Scottish-Chinese roots of hers. We discovered (for ourselves) KT about a year ago and haven't looked back. In May she made a tour stop here in Seattle and put on a show that simply rocked a packed house (sound very iffy) of 300-400. It won't be a crowd that small any time soon - she's made the big show. Listen up - I think you'll like what you find, if you haven't already.

The Featured Film will not be, unfortunately, the highly lauded Snakes On A Plane (although, with reviews like this how could we not at least go see it. Oh man, my wife's gonna be so ticked when I tell her we have tickets to see it tonight). Actually, I can't think of a film I'd like to feature. Bummer.

Here is a film review, however:

Little Miss Sunshine - Napoleon Dynamite rated-R and not nearly as entertaining (gut wrenching funny). It's a definite "wait-for-video/pay-per-view". I like indie films, but not films that are indie just for the sake of being indie.

Today was one of those good working days where you work 2 hours in the office and the remaining 6 playing a round of 18 (travel & warm-up time included, of course) paid for by someone you spend a lot of money with.

During the round the subject of children came up. You know, now that I've been hitched for a year those questions become more prevelent as time passes. The EiP Babe is becoming increasily anxious to get on with the part of our family. I'll admit it, I am a little, too. Even after reading this* and knowing sometimes some peoples' kids turn out a little more than obnoxious.

First, can we all just start of with a big collective, "Duuuuh"? Of course they're faking photos. They have faked just about everything else, so why wouldn't they fake photos? The story should be about how there are people out there who are actually "shocked" by it, like those left out of the inside joke.

Second, the real person behind this latest fake-but-accurate thing is clearly Keyser Soze. He's obviously interested in helping Iran obtain nuclear arms because it's "a highly profitable violation of U.N. policy." (Kobayashi)

On a serious note, I'd like to point out what I believe is the real story here: Momma Landis.

Okay, so this is kinda strange, eh?

Fisherman Erik Eide of Bow told the Bellingham Herald it looked like a dead whale but when he moved in closer Sunday, Eide and three crewmen thought it was a little submarine or a bomb with stubby wings.

Then Eide remembered seeing a a program on the Discovery Channel about a sonar rig towed behind submarines so he decided to haul it aboard for salvage. That's when they saw the Russian lettering on the side.

I'm not sure what to make of this. There was an old Soviet sub that was anchored at a pier here in Seattle for quite some time for tours the last couple years and it has recently disappeared. I don't know if this is some sort of "garbage" that came off it or if it is something bigger from the present or the past.

Who knows - could be something experimental the University of Washington lost.

I was on my way to the Metropolitan Tabernacle for the day to hear the guys teach and my friend (name deleted) literally closed the gate at the High Street Kensington tube station in my face.

I said "(Deleted), open the gate I need to go to Elephant and Castle." Once he got over the surprise of me being in London he said, "It's up the hill on the left, they have a great ale." I said "Not that Elephant and Castle, the tube station in Lambeth". He said, "Sorry Mate, all the tubes are closed. Some Blokes blew up a train at Alders Gate, killed a bunch of people." He said, "You aren't goin' to Elephant and Castle today." And he was sooooooo right.

So... After trying to get on the tube this morning, I then thought I'd take the bus, but then I saw a bus on the television that the upper deck was blown off and I thought that maybe I wouldn't take the bus after all. :<)
